Starfield Update 1.14.68 Now Available to Steam Users
Less than a month later, Bethesda followed up on that patch with the 1.14.68 build, which launched on Tuesday, September 17. Since this is an experimental release, it is only available to Starfield PC players who own the RPG through Valve's storefront and are willing to switch to the game's beta branch under its Steam properties. Bethesda has historically taken between one and two weeks to bring its Starfield beta updates to the stable channel, thus making them available to both non-Steam PC players and Xbox Series X/S users. Should the developer continue that trend, the 1.14.68 update is likely to hit the stable channel just ahead of the Shattered Space expansion dropping on September 30.
The highlights of the 1.14.68 update are a handful of gameplay changes and fixes, including a tweak to the Annihilator Particle Beam damage-over-time effect that prevents it from affecting Starfield's companions. EM weapons can damage robots and turrets following the patch, while Autumn Macmillan will no longer repeat herself when answering the question about her sister. Starfield modders have also received a helpful new feature in the form of an automated process for creating distant level-of-detail (LOD) models, which is now available in the Creation Kit on the 1.14.68 version of the game.
Even though the newly debuted update is currently not available to Starfield Xbox players, its patch notes do include several mentions of fixes that are specific to Microsoft's consoles. One of them removes a debug string that was previously displayed when uploading saves to customer service, while another makes setting the frame rate target under Xbox Display Settings to 60fps work as originally intended.
The 1.14.68 update also adds a new option to Starfield's settings that allows players to toggle the Flip Merge action behavior in the Ship Builder. Nine REV-8-specific fixes are also part of the package, together with a dozen changes to the game's locations, which mostly focus on texture updates and ironing out collision detection issues. The changelog attached to the 1.14.68 update includes 90 items in total.
